Virtual Derby Bike Ride

Walnut Hill Church’s Virtual Derby Bike Ride

This year the word β€œcancel” seems to be appearing as often as the word COVID-19. Walnut Hill Church decided to get creative and instead of canceling their annual Bike Ride, the Church decided to host a Virtual Derby Bike Ride. I enjoyed designing the poster for this virtual event.

On Derby Day Saturday, September 5th, 2020 from 9 AM – 12 PM Walnut Hill Church encouraged participants to ride wherever (neighborhood or on trails or hop on a stationary bike). Then participants simply posted their bike’s mileage along with some fun Derby Hat Selfies on the Virtual Derby Bike Ride Facebook event page.

Of course Walnut Hill Church and Bluegrass Cycling Club members all missed the traditional pancake brunch and community gathering that was part of the Church’s previous bike ride events, but we hoped to continue to financially support Brenda Cowan School. And special thanks to a church member, Dave Sharrard, viewers were able to delight in a virtual pancake making video!

In themed with Derby, a Best Derby Hat Competition was part of the virtual event. To enter the competition particpants decorated their bike helmet - Derby hat inspired. Winners received gift cards.

WIN: $100 gift card

PLACE: $50 gift card

SHOW: $25 gift card

100% of the funds raised by riders benefited Brenda Cowan School and the donations funded digital books for the students.

Participants received a Triple Crown Package, which included an event hat, cookies, and mini Derby pies! The event hat was created and sponsored by Cornett Team.

A total of $3,365.00 was raised for Brenda Cowan School.
